Swapping a wild animal for a human animal, it demonstrates how snaring kills... and leaves us in no doubt we should back the campaign calling for snares to be made illegal.
The key to its impact lies in the sound design during the close-up of a man's face as the wire tightens round his neck, slowly garrotting him. His eyes bulge, his veins stand out; we see his skin colour change hue as he becomes more and more deprived of oxygen but it's his wretched gasping that makes this visceral.
Although we know this is a re-enactment of sorts (and therefore less unbearable), it has immense power because it looks so believable, and we're left with a new understanding and awareness of the unnecessary suffering this method of trapping inflicts.
