ABOUT

The digital painting depicts metalworking, settlement, landscape reconstruction and wildlife in Bronze Age Estonia (1800-500 BC). The excavations on which the painting is based took place on the so-called Asva Castle Hill on the largest Estonian island, Saaremaa.
The reconstruction shows the elevated Bronze Age production and trade centre surrounded by water, as well as the partially excavated part of the settlement with traces of intensive bronze working in late summer. Excavation plans, aerial photographs and satellite images of the site have been used to create an accurate reconstruction with a typical local log cabin, settlers, ship, trade scene and local bronze casting.
