Celebrity endorsements: can they really be that desperate?
There's nothing new about celebrities lending their name to a product in exchange for a fat wad of cash, and Ashley's latest bout of snorting at the telly is aimed at two such criminals: Victoria "Range Rover" Beckham and Lionel "Walkers Extra Crunchy Crisps" Richie.
Click here to read the full blog, where Ashley struggles to hide his disdain of advert-hungry, money-grabbing, integrity-shunning celebs.

Where now for the idea?
The creative business is just that - a business. So it stands to reason we must be selling something. But what exactly? Media planning? Digital expertise? Colours? Words?
Yes, yes - all that. However, I'd like to think what we're really selling is 'the idea'. Surely, any client worth having is employing professional creatives because they have access to the pool of excellent ideas residing in their heads. Using an agency for any other reason is to misunderstand the purpose of a creative department and embark on a distinctly unproductive relationship. That said, with the pressures of a squeezed economy and a generally conservative mood in marketing and advertising, a tendency to shy away from original and sparky thinking is developing.
Is this such a bad thing? Magnus Shaw examines the future of 'the idea' and explains why we devalue it at our peril.

Why premature Christmas advertising can sod off.
Halloween is now out of the way and soon bonfire night will have gone up in smoke too which means the next thing to look forward to is Christmas.
Come the end of November, most of us will be feeling festive, that is of course, if the onslaught of DFS, Tesco and Park catalogue adverts haven't turned us of Christmas forever by then. I'm not sure about you but I for one am yet to come across a single person who welcomes the sight of mince pies in August. Who are these people? They must exist otherwise the Christmas advertising debacle wouldn't exist.
This blog looks at the guiltiest sinners in terms of the premature season.

British newspapers to 'die' in 2019
There have been all sorts of predictions about the exact moment when newspapers will vanish. Anyone who has dared to put a date to the disappearance of newsprint has, naturally enough, suffered from much scorn.
But an Australian-based futurist, Ross Dawson, is clearly unworried by the inevitable brickbats that will strike him. Dawson is quoted in 'The Australian' as saying:"In the developed world, newspapers are in the process of becoming extinct, driven by rapidly changing use of media and revenues out of line with cost structures."
Mr Dawson not only predicts the "death" of printed news in the UK but also gives a fairly precise prediction of it's demise across the globe, who will be the first to ditch the ink?
