Fruits of their labours - what is Apple doing in China?

Apple Walk into any creative studio and you're sure to see them. Macs. Gleaming and proud, standing to proud attention and almost looking a little smug. Since Apple realised there was a need for a computer crafted for the design industry, the Mac has steadily built a reputation as the tool for the hip, alternative thinker. And the ubiquitous iPod has only added to its allure.

Unfortunately, the company behind these objects of desire may well be as exploitative and shady as all those other big corporations, if recent reports are to be believed. Many Mac products (and especially the iPad) are put together in the People's Republic of China and the factories in which they are built share very little with the laid-back studios in which they operate.

Get the most from the hard work you perform

Halcyon A recent independent survey by the Professional Contractors Group has found that Freelancers choose to become so for positive reasons, rather than through necessity.

The desire for flexible working and an increased trend in this working style has been welcomed by Creative businesses through the recession, producing a smaller core of permanent staff and larger numbers of freelancers and temporary workers.

Despite the economy proving challenging for employers and Freelancers alike, the latter have found a very productive way of making more from their hard earned cash through companies like Halcyon Management.

John Wilcock Jonathan Wilcock has changed from the guy that first started in advertising back the 80's. His full and glorious head of hair that once flowed like a burst pipe has gone. His clothing choice is now less Samaritans. And it seems the half smoked fag that was a permanent fixture behind his right ear has been surgically removed.

There's a good reason for all this. It's called; 'running your own agency'.

So today John heads to Tunbridge Wells in Kent to discover how Mr Wilcock is coping with running Remedy and discovers a world of polite conversation, dainty pink biscuits and sensible M&S shirts. Well, not really, just wrote that last bit to wind him up.
