Recruitment

Pretty vacancies. Are recruitment consultants letting us down?

The theory's tremendous. The consultant has lots of jobs from which to choose, saving you the stress of job hunting and the employer the randomness of advertising a role. The consultant gets their fee, the post gets filled and you find yourself with the sparkly new gig of your dreams. Only, for some reason, it never seems to work out that way. In fact, all too often, dealing with recruitment consultants is a world of pain. So, what's going wrong? Magnus Shaw explores.

The spanner in the works to you finding your dream job?

Blade Runner, Syd Mead and visual futurism

The 1982 cyberpunk cinema classic Blade Runner remains one of the most influential science fiction movies of all time.

It was Syd Mead, a "visual futurist" and concept artist who designed the film's dystopian look and feel and, back in the 80’s, his work on the movie had a lasting effect on adlands creative people.

Technology

Stay healthy. Get a tattoo.

These tattoos aren't ordinary tattoos. They're electronic tattoos and they could revolutionise medical examinations. These ultra-thin postage stamp-sized electronic systems can read the body’s vital signs, replacing the sometimes uncomfortable rigid medical electrodes and monitors which are surgically glued to one’s skin – the ones which mean you have to shave in places you really didn’t want to shave. And they can look quite pretty, too.

With 50% of the votes each they're either both dead or hanging on by the skin of their teeth. We'll leave it to you to decide. This week, the power is yours once again to determine the fates of a 2D artist and a 3D artist as they lock horns... or keypads, who knows.

Let battle commence

The Ultimate 3D experience

A week or so ago we posed a question on our facebook page that got you clicking away to vote. We are taking the debate onto the site and asking you 'What is the best 3d computer graphics software out there at the moment?'. Does Maya float your boat or is Blender all you could ever need from a 3D tool? Or do you have a hidden piece of software that hardly anyone knows of?

Fight for your software

Fashion

Vivienne Westwood at London Fashion Week 2011

London Fashion Week has become a globally renowned showcase for the next season's trends from the biggest wigs in the world of fashion since it first began in 1984. 27 years on I got my first taste of the catwalk atmosphere when I went to watch the Vivienne Westwood Spring Summer 2012 Red Label Collection. In 20 glorious minutes it was all over in a flash of backcombed barnets and gliding skinny frames, you can read all about it here...

I’m not with stupid. I am stupid.

As many of you will know Topman has recently got itself in a bit of trouble with some new T-shirt designs featuring some rather questionable slogans. But given that the emotional responses these novelty slogan T-shirts usually conjure up range from boredom to disdain, the topman T-shirt debacle isn’t really a fall from grace for the world of ‘edgy’ slogan shirts at all. Rather, just another example to add to the list of why provocative slogan shirt design is one of the less needed contributors to the area of T-shirt design as a whole.

Will slogan shirts ever be last season?
