Re-vamped Creativepool Facebook Page

We have been busy adding several new parts to our Facebook page to help you keep as up-to-date as possible with everything happening through Creativepool as well as events and exhibitions in the worlds of design, arts, fashion, illustration, photography and more.

Rover Chair by Ron Arad

It's amazing when an idea sort of jumps out at you, unexpected. Like an apple falling out of a tree and bouncing about on top of your head, it can really take you by surprise.

Over the years designer Ron Arad has enjoyed quite a few eureka moments, but none quite so impressive as the one that appeared while he was taking a stroll around a Chalk Farm scrapyard.

EESC 2011

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will be launching "the second edition of a competition to design an innovative, sustainable and creative design product, including packaging, with a strong civil society message".

The competition is open to professional designers as well as design students from EU member states. Entrants can be either as part of team or individually-based.

The deadline for registration and and submission of work is 30 May, 2011 so click the link below to start your application process.

Apple overtakes Google as the world's most valuable brand

A study carried out by research company Millward Brown has revealed that Apple has overtaken Google as the most valuable brand in the world.

  Apple's success in the rankings is largely thought to be attributed to the success of the IPad and IPad2.

The list of most valuable companies sees some other familiar names in the technology industry as well as top 100 apperance from a well-known social networking site

Antti Laitinen is barking mad

Finnish performance artist Antti Laitinen is due to unveil his latest exhibition at the Nettie Horn gallery this week. In his series of ridiculous and seemingly impossible solitary quests, sailing across the Baltic sea in a home made raft of bark is perhaps his most ambitious work to date.

This week's blog looks back on his past achievements which include digging a big hole for 7 days, living naked in the forest for four days and making his own islands in the middle of the sea. He is nothing if not committed to his art, and of course a little barmy. Read on here...
