The Stars of Design Junction: The College

Published by

The old hallways of Central Saint Martins are now currently home to 180 cutting-edge brands and designers from around the world. This instagraming dreamworld spread over 6 floors was a collaboration-haven with a stunning display of new textures, fabrics, materials and shapes. There was a lot to take in, so we have shortlisted the crowd favourites from opening night…

Molo

*

One of the first stops along the journey we were stoked to stumble into the Canadian design studio, Molo. The demonstrations of their softwall + softblock modular system possessed their unique expertise, it felt like a tea ceremony. Hailing from Vancouver you can see the eastern and western influences in the designs of these moveable structures and lighting fixtures. Minimal, adaptable & eco-conscious, we can see this brand attracting hot attention in the European market for 2016.

Knit : Curver

**

Everybody loves the revival of an iconic brand. All around the building and hanging from above were hints of these futuristic woven baskets, and they were definitely catching the eyes of the crowd. Curver has teamed up with trend experts, Franklin Till Studio, to create 3D knitted look for bags, tables and storage; which merge the next chapter in design, innovation and style in its form and pastel colour.

KirkbyDesign : Jon Burgerman

*

The energy and freshness from the KirkbyDesign created a room you definitely did not want to leave. The collaboration with UK born/US based illustrator Jon Burgerman and upcoming studio Kirkby Design pushed the boundaries of textile and colour in these all over playful prints. Jon was doing some hilarious on the spot sketches of visitors to their space. So much to look at, our favourite is the Rainbow Scrawl.

“I wanted to make a really colourful and slightly manic design that captures a real sense of movement and energy.” – Jon Burgerman

West Coast East : Studio o+a

*

*

These San Franscicans have access to the hottest new companies(and budgets) in the world. With clients like Uber, Facebook, Evernote, Yelp, and Microsoft this group of young designers is rethinking the definition of the modern workspace. They believe they should function more like ecosystems with all parts communicating in unison to help people work better.

The Gem Room : Laufen : Studio Appetit

*

The combination of perfection really came to life in The Gem Room: a collaboration between LaufenStudio Appétit. This exclusive conceptual eating experience worthy of velvet ropes gates had everyone brimming with curiosity. Laufen, Swiss purveyors of state-of-the-art bathroom culture took over the old CSM jewelry room by harnessing the power of Dutch expert, Ido Garini. His work at Studio Appétit explores the uncharted territories in the power of food design to create and enhance multisensory experiences which can be applied to lectures, installations and workshops.
