The latest from VCCP

Harry Westlake Wears the Rose

Little Harry Westlake; the six-year-old who rose to national fame after belting out the national anthem before the recent Six Nations rugby game that saw England triumph over Italy, has been given his own chat show by VCCP to drum up support for the team ahead of the upcoming Six nations deciding weekend. Of course, it's not a real chat show (nobody would expect that of a six-year-old surely), but is the latest film created for O2's “Wear The Rose” campaign, which aims to build support for the national team using the sign of the red rose as an emotional touch-point.

Harry Westlake Tonight

The charming video (below) brings to mind the “Little Ant and Dec” segments from the Geordie duo's Saturday Night Take Away, and sees little Harry interviewing England Rugby heroes Dylan Hartley, Luther Burrell and Kieran Brookes. Whilst Jonathan Ross or Graham Norton might take the job a little more seriously, Harry instead uses the opportunity to ask his heroes some really pressing questions, such as “Would you rather play rugby against a gorilla or a crocodile.” We think the crocodile would be the better bet. No opposable thumbs.

400 Years of Originality

*

We've already reported on the VCCP's “Celebrating 400 Years of Originality” campaign marking Grolsch's official 400th birthday in May this year, with (aptly) 400 artist commissioned to create their own interpretations of the lager's iconic swing-top bottle, with the designs featuring on a number of limited edition packs. The campaign has now been supplemented, however, by a range of films, each of which put an inventive spin on the unique creations. From a slow-motion paint whipping to stop motion watercress and an animated colour explosion, the videos themselves are just as inventive as the bottle designs they represent. The films will be complimented by OOH and digital engagements.

Trio of Creative Teams become Associate Creative Directors

*

Chris Birch, Jonny Parker, Kieran Knight, Veryan Prigg, Pete Bastiman and David Aylesbury have all been promoted to associate creative directors after creating campaigns for clients including O2, Hiscox and Royal London, marking the first time that VCCP has appointed associate creative directors to spend more time with clients. Birch and Parker created the “We’re so yesterday” work for Hiscox, whilst Knight and Prigg conceived “Unlock the world” for Avis, and Bastiman and Aylesbury were behind successful campaigns for EasyJet. Knight and Prigg both moved from JWT to VCCP in 2004, whilst Bastiman and Aylesbury worked as freelancers before joining the agency in 2014.

Darren Bailes, executive creative director at VCCP, said “It’s a pleasure to reward the teams responsible for making great work time and time again.” He feels that “This move, and further hirings to come, will continue to strengthen the creative department ready for a big year.” The announcement follows news earlier in the year that VCCP had promoted Jonny Goodall and James Storey to the new positions of interactive creative directors, from head of digital design and digital creative lead respectively.
