OMD claim Top Gunn once again

Published by

Omnicom's OMD Worldwide has claimed the title of the “World's most creative media agency” for the ninth consecutive time courtesy of the Gunn Report for Media. This now means that the agency has topped the rankings every year since the report was first launched back in 2004, and this year the win was sweetened further thanks to the announcement of sister Omnicom agency PHD Worldwide as third place runner-up. OMD topped the list with a staggering 521 points, whilst PHD claimed 357. The other agencies that made up the top five were Starcom-Mediavest (Publicis) with 467 points, Mindshare (Group M) with 294 points, and UM (IPG) with 209 points.

The Gunn Report for Media has become known in just nine short years as the industry standard for evaluating media creativity. It ranks agencies according to their placings in the industry's top award shows, whilst also underlining the vital role media agencies play in a highly competitive and fragmented communications landscape. Gunn Report points are earned based on awards won in over 50 annual worldwide award shows such as Cannes Lions and the Effies, amongst many others.

Omnicom is the only media holding group to have two agencies in the top five, and also earned the most combined points of any media holding group in the ranking with 878 points, followed by Group M, which earned a total of 738 points earned across its four agency networks. OMD's top ranking reflects recognition earned in 2014 by agencies in every region across its network, with stand-out performers including Singapore, the UK, Colombia and MENA, which was the most awarded media agency at the 2014 Effies.

PHD, meanwhile, finds itself in a top three placing for the first time, after winning four gold Media Lions in Cannes, which is the most Golds won by any media agency in 2014. Standout performers for the network were the UK and India, as well as Hong Kong, New Zealand, China, Denmark and Colombia. PHD was also recognised for having two of the world's most awarded campaigns in 2014. Omnicom Media Group CEO Daryl Simm, said “Awards are a great testament to the innovation and creativity” of the Omnicom network and its people. He believes that “No source provides as comprehensive a measure of an organisation's ability to deliver great work on a global level as the Gunn Report,” and he is “Very proud of this recognition.”
