Inspiration for Advertising Week Europe

Published by

Karmarama has used inspirational quotes from influential people such as director Richard Curtis and TV chef Jamie Oliver as a basis for a new print and poster campaign that aims to raise awareness of this year's Advertising Week Europe. The work builds on the agency's campaign for the event from last year, which revealed the inspirations behind some of the creative industry's leading figures, as well as Boris Johnson and Lord Sebastian Coe. The work was created by art director Carl Storey and copywriter Chris Godfrey, and uses bold, arresting imagery from photographer David Gill, which dramatises some inspirational quotes from inspirational individuals in a decidedly quirky fashion.

Each quote opens with the line “My Inspiration is,” and then reveals where each create individual looks for inspiration. For example, one poster (below) takes a quote from Facebook's chief operating office Sheryl Sandberg (“Women who believe in themselves), and turns it into a stark image featuring a bust of a woman's head using an old gramophone speaker to speak into her own ear. It's certainly odd, but it's very effective and undeniably memorable. Other posters feature the quote “Turning the expected into the extraordinary” from Heart Magazines CEO Anna Jones and even a quote from Karmarama executive chairman, Jon Wilkins, which shows a mouse trap baited with a slice of cheap, American cheese under the line “Not falling for convenience.” The work breaks tomorrow (February 26) and will run for four weeks. It aims to inspire people to attend Advertising Week Europe. Matt Schekner, executive director of Advertising Week Europe, said that “Inspiration is at the heart of Advertising Week Europe,” and that he feels “Karmarama’s evolution of the campaign, built on this very notion, absolutely nailed it.”

Advertising Week Europe runs in London between the 23rd and the 27th of March. The week is now in its third year, and provides a valuable showcase for thought leadership in advertising from some of the most inspiring creative and media industry leaders in the world. Yesterday also saw the event announcing it's daytime agenda, which this year will be expanded as Advertising Week Europe’s “BAFTA Campus” broadens to include St. James’s Church, Piccadilly and Fortnum & Mason. Felix Dennis’ legacy, the Heart of England Forest, will also be celebrated and showcased in partnership with the Church as well throughout the week, and as in former years, there is no singular theme for the thought leadership programme and BAFTA remains the event's hub.
