5 minutes with... Roz & Nicola - Creative directors at Minx Creative

Published

Alexis Pratside

"Minx Creative is a full service creative studio. We create integrated campaigns and design for print, identity, branding, display and digital based projects.."

What do you actually do?
It’s a pretty packed day for us both each day in the studios. What we do falls under three main categories:
Creative – creative and art direction, preparatory, research, conceptual, design, grids/layout, typography, illustration, comping, editing, proofing, copywriting, implementation etc. – we will get involved in all aspects at some point for each project we work on and some more so than others.
Administration – everyday paperwork, client estimation, project proposals, RFQ’s, tender submission, presentation writing/preparation and delivery, print sourcing/specifying and buying, client liaison, meetings, supplier visits/meetings/reviews, procurement etc.
Business – all aspects of financial planning, management and forecasting (with our accountants of course), business modelling, strategy, monthly performance reviews, marketing, social-media, HR and policies, property management, legal etc.

What would you be doing if you weren’t doing that?
Roz: Singing
Nic: Marine biologist

How did you get started in the industry?
We both had the same route: graduated, moved to London and started to work fairly immediately.

What’s your current favourite piece of creative work at the moment?
Both: Eurostar’s re-brand (by SomeOne) and particularly the translation to sculptural – we loved that.

What do you love about your job?
Both: Absolutely everything – people and work. The meld of great and tough times keep us on our toes. We have been running the studio for 14 years and can categorically say that we have never fallen into a complacent mindset - always pushing to be better (every facet) and to provide a greater result. Our drive, enthusiasm and thirst for design wholly stems from the fact that we love what we do with the people we work with.

If you could give one piece of advice for someone starting out, what would it be?
Both: Look, listen, learn and somehow keep perceptions limitless.

If you have one Super power what would it be?
Roz: To fly (with or without Superman).
Nic: Teleportation.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Both: Fabulous ;)

What was your worst job and what did you learn from it?
Roz: All my worst jobs led to this epiphany >> you can never please all, don’t let it stop you.
Nic: I had quite a few summer fillers from school through to my degree. Learned so much from the jobs and particularly that I had to do something I really enjoyed/loved to feel as if it’s more than a necessary task.

Your favourite app?
Roz: Spotify
Nic: Maps!

Too Cool for School or too School for Cool?
Both: Started off cool but inevitably veering towards school now...

Facebook or Twitter?
Both: Twitter

Eat In or eat out?
Both: (in unison) Both!

The Brands Pushing Back Against Fast Fashion #SustainabilityMonth

Fashion has always been anathema to me. You could diplomatically refer to my wardrobe as “functional” and I’m unlikely to spend more than a few fleeting seconds deciding what to wear in the morning. I do, however, understand the...
