Paul Rudd replaces Jeff Bridges as the “Voice Of Hyundai”

Published by

Comedic actor Paul Rudd, who is perhaps best known for his roles in comedy hits such as Anchorman, I Love You, Man and This Is 40, and is currently filming a role as the superhero Ant Man in the Marvel film of the same name, has been named as the new voice for Hyundai's new national advertising campaign. Rudd's first role in the position will see him voicing a campaign for the new 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

It will mark the first time in seven years that a new actor has taken the role, as Jeff Bridges has acted as the brand's voice since 2007. Steve Shannon, vice president of marketing for Hyundai Motor America, said "Hyundai's relationship with Jeff Bridges is one of the longest in the longest in the industry, and that whilst they are saying “Goodbye to an epic era with Jeff,” they are “Extremely excited to have Paul come on board." During his time as the voice of Hyundai, Bridges voiced numerous major product launches and marketing efforts including the Hyundai Assurance program, which ran from 2009 to 2011.

Hyundai were “Looking for a voice that could be recognisable and relatable to a new generation of car buyers," and felt that Rudd had a “Modern sensibility” that they knew would be a “Perfect match for today's customers."

When deciding on a successor for “The Dude” himself, Shannon said they were “Looking for a voice that could be recognisable and relatable to a new generation of car buyers," and felt that Rudd had a “Modern sensibility” that they knew would be a “Perfect match for today's customers." He added that Rudd had proven himself to be an eclectic actor who can be “Serious, humorous, informative and entertaining all at the same time,” therefore making him a perfect candidate for voiceover work.

The first spot to use Rudd's voice will be the “Co-Pilot” spot (above), which pokes fun at the typical “Back seat driver.” The 20-second spot features a backseat driver being schooled by the Sonata's intelligent and adaptive safety and navigation system, which is one of the new model's major selling points. The clip ends with Rudd stating “Back seat drivers just met their match.” The spot was developed by INNOCEAN USA, who are Hyundai's agency of record.
