Leo Burnett's Internship Program, The Nest, Opens Applications for its Second Year

Published by

After a hugely successful inaugural year, which saw 50& of interns given permanent positions within the industry, Leo Burnett Sydney and Diageo Australia have announced that applications for the second year of their internship program; The Nest, are officially open. The Nest was an industry-first joint initiative between the Australian agencies last year, which offered students and recent graduates alike the opportunity to work a paid 12-week marketing and advertising internship, which spanned both businesses. This year, successful applicants will be spending 6 weeks working in the Account Service department at Leo Burnett and 6 weeks working in Marketing at Diageo between the 15th of September and the 5th of December.

This year's program is being organised by Elizabeth Maunsell and Justin Hazelton, who were offered permanent posts at Leo Burnett following last year's initiative. They will be drawing on their own experiences as “Nesters” to help make this year's program even more successful. Pete Bosilkovski, Leo Burnett Sydney's client services director, believes that the Nest program is “All about making the most of an amazing opportunity to demonstrate the ambition, aptitude and attitude needed to get a foothold in the industry when you are just starting out.” He is especially excited by the fact that this year's program has been “Moulded and put together by last years Nesters,” and feels that “Their insight and experience will ensure that the program continues to stay relevant and engaging.”

Bosilkovski feels that last year's success “Underscores the value of The Nest in nurturing the industry’s future leaders.” He says that The Nest provides the young advertisers of the future with valuable work experience and an “Exceptional opportunity to gain invaluable experience, contacts and insights (as well as a first step on their career ladder) by working with some of the industry’s best creative, strategic and business minds.” He also stresses that the program is so unique “Because it offers juniors the opportunity to interact with their counterparts from the start of their careers.” He says that traditionally, juniors can reach the second or third year of their careers “Without having any interaction with their client or agency-side counterpart.” Which means they “Have no idea how to handle it when it comes.” The Nest, he says, “Offers graduates real experience of what it’s like to work on both sides of the business.”

Adam Ballesty and Pete Bosilkovski “Relish the opportunity to continue the program into a second year and look forward to discovering and guiding more new talent in The Nest.”

Adam Ballesty, the marketing and innovation director at Diageo, says The Nest is, like the advertising industry itself, “Built on partnerships and collaboration.” He believes the program “Gives tomorrow’s marketing and advertising professionals the unique chance to experience the most awarded client-agency partnership in Asia Pacific from both perspectives (client and agency-side) first-hand.” He says himself and Bosilkovski “Relish the opportunity to continue the program into a second year and look forward to discovering and guiding more new talent in The Nest.” As with last year, 4 successful interns will be whittled down from 20 shortlisted applicants after a one-day workshop. Applications are open to students in their final year of study and recent graduates in fields relating to advertising, marketing, business, design or communications. Applications are open now and will close on the 14th of August 2014. For more information on the program, or to submit an application, visit The Nest Facebook page.
