YES Christmas is the best time to job hunt

Published by

Christmas is of course a time to reflect on the past year, meet up with friends, exchange gifts and celebrate, but did you know it is also the perfect time to look for a new job?

You will be aware of some businesses are winding down and hiring has taken a backseat and budgets are maxed out, but for many business across the digital and creative markets are still busy with both freelance & permanent positions!

In particular infact, there has been an influx  Client Services and Project Management roles still coming in throughout December! Agencies and companies are looking to fill not just seasonal positions but also for some companies they are working on projects that will run into 2017 and the hiring budgets will reset before January.

It’s also a fantastic opportunity to get a head start on other job seekers for 2017, so keep the momentum going and get in touch now, so we can get the ball rolling and start having conversations about what the marketplace is like and which roles are in the pipeline for either now or for 2017, or if you’re done interviewing for this year, we can help you devise the best possible strategy for your new year search. So why should you continue your job hunt?

Here are a few reasons why you should keep up your job hunt in the run up to Christmas:

1. No Competion

Many candidates who are in between jobs stop searching for new positions over the holidays, and those with jobs who are thinking about making a change tend to wait until the New Year to take advantage of holiday leave and bonus payouts. So there’s less competition right now for any companies who are on the lookout for new hires.

2. Lets Catch Up

Hiring managers are easier to reach as they might not be travelling as much as usual as the holiday approaches. It’s more likely that they are finishing up on projects, catching up on administration before the holidays, meeting with colleagues and attending holiday gatherings.

3. Smiley Happy People

Take advantage of the holiday spirit. Everyone seems a little happier and friendlier during this time of year, so use that to your advantage when scheduling networking meetings for the New Year. Focus on the networking at this time of year too, as you may find that people are more willing to meet as work demands slow down, helping turn short discussions into long-term opportunities. Remember that all the Christmas parties will give you the opportunity to meet new people and expand your professional network. So keep an open mind (and ears) when attending events.

4. January Panic

You can avoid the usual January panic if you keep going and maintain momentum throughout December. The New Year is always full of reminders to start afresh, to think about a ‘new career in the New Year’, turn over a new leaf and set new career goals. If you keep up your job search efforts throughout December, you’ll be ahead of the game by the time others are making their first calls.

So get ahead of the game and contact Cogs today, as your dream agency may be looking for someone right now! If not, we can start discussing how to tackle things next year or can work on re-doing/adapting your CV to represent you in the best possible way!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
