Researcher, Natural World - BBC
Natural World is the BBC Natural History Unit’s award winning strand of one-off wildlife documentaries. The strand has been running for over 30 years, with 500+ films to its name, and multiple prestigious awards. We make intelligent and emotional in-depth shows that connect viewers with the natural world, with fresh insight into wild animals and places.
We are looking for an experienced researcher to join the team.Role Responsibility
The main responsibilities can be split into three areas:
Development: Working with the development producer to work up and review ideas, write treatments and produce promos.
Production: This involves supporting in-house producers working on various Natural World titles. Regular tasks include fact-checking of scripts and sourcing archive. You may also need to set up shoots, go on location (both UK and international), work with contributors and undertake independent research to find new stories and angles.
Strand research: Support series editor including for events, writing up and collating press materials and working on content for the website.
This is a varied role and requires you to manage your time across the different responsibilities and productions.The Ideal Candidate
Key skill areas for this job include:
- Excellent research skills
- A great team player
- An ability to set up and maintain strong relationships with scientists and key wildlife organisations.
- Be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the BBC Two audience needs
- Production experience on factual content
- Good time management skills
- An ability to turn complex scientific principles into accessible and engaging information
3 month Fixed term contract
