Job Introduction

Visual Journalism provides all the graphics for BBC television news. It is a 24-hour, 7 days a week operation based at New Broadcasting House. The role will involve shift working which will include working earlies, lates, weekends and Bank Holidays.

The team provides graphics for domestic and international news; the One, Six and Ten, the BBC News channel, BBC World News, BBC Arabic, BBC Persian and Language Services as well as many other news, current affairs and political programmes including Focus on Africa, Newsnight, The Daily Politics and The Sunday Politics, plus specials such as the Elections and the Budget. As part of BBC News Visual Journalism, we work alongside UX&D designers, CS developers and the Online Specials Team, and have regular meetings together.

 

Role Responsibility

As part of the Visual Journalism team, you will undertake the full range of duties as a motion graphics designer for on the day output as well as planned events. With support from your Senior Designer you will work directly with producers, 3d designers and VizRT programmers to create broadcast and multi-platform graphics.

You will be responsible for researching and preparing material in support of new design concepts and create working drawings, storyboards and layouts for evaluation and presentation purposes. You will also liaise with the senior designer and editorial team to ensure that design work consistently answers the brief in terms of look and feel, accuracy, functionality and brand identity.

You will report to a Senior Graphic Designer.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for people with professional experience of graphic design work and a relevant design qualification. Youll have experience as a motion graphic designer with television or multi-media production.

You will need to show a competent understanding of 2D motion design using Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator. Familiarisation with 3D packages such as C4D and VizArtist would be useful but not essential.

You will also need to be able to demonstrate innovative creative solutions in the area of motion design branding and/or information graphics, with a keen eye for detail. You will need to show practical and technical creativity with an interest in news and current affairs.

It is essential that all candidates submit a working link to their showreel. Without this your application will not be considered.

There is a one hour timed practical exercise as part of the interview process. If you have previously successfully completed this practical exercise you will not be required to re sit it.
