Lecturer in Media (Variable Hours – up to 12 hours per week).
Fixed Term until August 2013

The Hive Media Centre at Weymouth College requires a new part time lecturer (12 hours a week) to join the team.  Strong interest in interactive media with industry experience in web design and games design is a requirement as is an ability to use the Adobe Creative Suite and a knowledge of the programming.

1.    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To have responsibility for the organisation, development and teaching/tutoring and assessment of an agreed part of the College curriculum.  A principal aim is to ensure outstanding quality in teaching, learning and learner support.

2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out formal scheduled teaching, delivery of functional skills, learner support and assessment in agreed areas
  • Co-ordinate, organise and develop learning programmes
  • Achieve outstanding quality in teaching and learning support
  • Monitor, guide and support learners throughout their programmes
  • Provide advice, guidance and counselling to learners
  • Prepare and maintain learning materials and assignments
  • Mark, appraise and assess learners’ work and provide feedback
  • Organise, co-ordinate and supervise student visits and placements
  • Act as an Internal Verifier as appropriate
  • Use ICT to deliver course requirements where appropriate
  • Use/apply electronic student registration systems as available
  • Directly contribute to achieving learner retention and achievement targets
  • Efficiently administer learning programme/s and maintain student records
  • Apply learner absence monitoring procedures
  • Liaise/work closely with relevant staff with Tutoring responsibility
  • Participate in promotional events and activities
  • Plan and prioritise own work
  • Proactively managing and minimising risk within all areas of responsibility
  • Assist and support senior Departmental staff
  • Attend and contribute to Team meetings
  • Support and participate in the School’s marketing activities

General Responsibilities:

  • Drive and participate in the performance management process as appropriate to position
